Breast Cancer early detection

Early detection of the breast cancer is the main stay in the management of the disease.

When breast cancer is diagnosed in the early stage then you can cure the disease.

Latest criteria to diagnose breast cancer  depends early work up the women.

There is three part action plan for the early diagnosis of the breast cancer :

1. Mammogram :

  1. This is the most important action for regular mammograms.
  2. Mammogram X Rays are quick, easy,and safe.
  3. Mammograms use radiation less than the radiation of dentist X-Ray.
  4. Mammograms can diagnose a tumor much smaller which is not palpable by the doctor.
  5. Mammograms can be started by the age of 40 years.
  6. Most of the tumors occurs in females 50 years are older.

2. Breast examination :

  • Breast examination should be started from 20 years of age. This will be part of their health check which can be done every three years.
  • After the age of 40 years then every years breast exam is needed.
  • Breast exam may be :
    • BY self examination.
    • By the doctor.

3. Breast change awareness:

    • Keep on doing self exam. most likely see the breast in front of mirror , any change in the contour.
    • Also keep on palpating the breast and report to the doctor if there id any change.

Recommendation for the females over the age of 40 years :

  1. Yearly mammogram should be advised.
  2. Breast examination should be part of medical check up.
  3. Whenever you find any change in the breast, must be reported to the doctor.

Tylenol, Acetaminophen poisoning

  • Most of the people think that Tylenol is the most safest pain killer.
  • It used for headache, joint pain (arthritis) and fever.
  • But its overuse or overdose may give rise to poisoning and side effects.
  • In healthy people over dose is more than 150 mg/Kg body weight.
  • Tylenol basically causes damage to liver.
  • Its poisoning effects are in phases.

Toxic level is >5 microgram/mL when patient is at high risk.

Phase 1

There will be mild nausea and abdominal discomfort.

This phase is self-limited and patient may feel better after few hours.

Phase 2

There may side effects after 24 hours and patient may develop liver injury

There is progressive liver cell necrosis or injury.

Phase 3

Ultimately there will be fulminant hepatitis leading to liver failure.

Phase 4

  1. This is stage of healing and resolution starts and may lead to complete recovery.
  2. Other possibilities are no recovery and patient may need liver transplant.
  3. Last possibility is death.

 


Carbon monoxide (CO) Poisoning

  • Carbon monoxide has high affinity to bind with hemoglobin.
  • This binding affinity as compared to oxygen is 200 times more.
  • When it combines with Hemoglobin then give rise to Carboxyhemoglobin (Hb-CO.)
  • Because of carbon monoxide (CO) binding then the sites for oxygen are not available.
  • This has even more affinity for fetal hemoglobin.
  • Carbon monoxide is directly toxic to intracellular oxidative process.

Clinical effects of Carbon monoxide poisoning 

Level of Carbon monoxide Clinical effect on patient
0.4 to 2% This level is seen in normal nonsmoker
2 to 6% This level is seen in normal smoker
10 to 20% Patient will have mild symptoms like dyspnea on exertion
20 to 50% Symptoms are severe. There is intoxication with headache, lethargy and loss of consciousness
>50% Patient will go into coma and ultimately death

Health and Fitness:

A state of mental, physical and social well-being and not simply the absence of illness or a disease is known as health. Keeping yourself healthy and fit is very important for your body. It gives a person the ability to live an economically and socially productive life. Health helps you exhibit vitality.

Importance of Health:

The central part of human well-being and happiness is better health. It makes important contributions to the economic progress of a person, as healthy populations are more productive and live longer. Being healthy also means that your body and mind functions as they have to. Being healthy physically has prime importance in life. If you are not feeling well or if you are ill, it can drastically affect your ability to work.
If one feels physically healthy, they can be more productive as well as happier. In order to keep you healthy, a healthy diet is required. A healthy diet is a diet in which nutrient intake is maintained where fat, salt, sugar and cholesterol is reduced. It is a way of eating that reduces risk of complications such as stroke or a heart disease. For keeping yourself healthy, intake of food such as vegetables, whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy products, lean meats, beans and poultry are essential.
The level of metabolic and functional efficiency of a person in spirit, body and mind is known as Health. When you are free from an injury, illness or pain, you are healthy or in good health.

Importance of Physical Fitness:
Physical fitness is a state of well-being and health  it starts with a good diet as it is physical fitness can be achieved through correct nutrition. Exercise is not only important for your health but it also increases energy and vitality. A fit person is he who is capable of living his life to its fullest extent. People that are both mentally and physically fit are less prone to medical conditions.
The physical health of a person and the mental health are interrelated. If a person is mentally troubled or unwell, she/he will not be able to function properly. If your body is functioning properly, mental fitness can be achieved only then. By exercising regularly and by eating healthy, you can help relax your mind.
You should make an aim for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of aerobic activity in order to remain physically fit and requires moderate effort each week.

General Fitness:
By regular physical activity, one can keep himself physically fit. It is the general state of good physical health. Exercise is the most essential part of a person’s life. It is said that “if exercise were a pill, it would be one of the most cost-effective drugs ever invented”
Physical fitness can be divided into the following three areas:

·        Cardio-respiratory

·        Flexibility

·        Strength

Healthy Diet:
If a person is on a diet such that he relies on a single food and this indicates of poor eating habits as he may be prone to deficiency and does not have the recommended nutrient intake. The cure of many diseases is available in different vegetables, plants and fruits. Plant-based food has many benefits and helps to reduce many chronic diseases. Nutritionists have found that plan-based diet are linked to longevity and health and also contributes to lower weight loss, cholesterol and in some cases helps to reduce stress.

There have been a number of presumptions of a healthy diet based on plant foods, majority of assumptions made by the people that are usually thought as bad foods are correct while many other foods such as cooked breakfast and bacon sandwiches are foods that are eaten regularly by the people are assumed healthy, while they contribute to fat, cholesterol and health problems.

A diet which contains balanced amount of nutrients is a healthy diet, such as fruits and vegetables, also proteins that we get from fish, dairy products and nuts. Least amount of fat, salt, sugar and alcohol should be taken. For a healthy living, the intake of a healthy diet is necessary.
